Recently I came across an interesting podcast talking about how our lives as Christians is likened to a house remodel. More like a whole house remodel where we need to update every room in the house. If we use this analogy it seems to resonate well with me because we have all done some sort of remodeling or been a part of some sort of remodel on our homes or the place we work. When I see a remodel happen people are usually very excited, happy, and anticipatory of the end result. A remodel is glorified when it is first started but over time or towards the end of the project tensions are high, emotions are flared, and just about everybody is ready for the work to be completed.
If we use the feelings and images that come to mind about being in a remodel and start to think about them in the context of God doing a work our nature, a great analogy starts to develop. When we first acknowledge that we are sinful and that we need a remodel on the inside or the outside we realize that it is exciting. We knew we needed Jesus and God’s going to do a work on, in, and through us. What could go wrong with this? Then the hard work begins. The simplest process is praying for God to reveal himself and to provide an answer on what parts need to get remodeled. God can sometimes drop a pointed scripture verse into our hearts, or he can grow and speak into our lives through our peers, our mentors, or a coach. But even then those can be glorified and seen as exciting at times. But sometimes the struggle or the battle of that remodel becomes even tougher.
I’m reminded that God does not guarantee that this life will be easy but along our journey that we will have heartache and sorrow. In this analogy of the remodel of our nature, how true is this statement! We trust God completely with our lives but still struggle with sin, and still have the heartache that comes from our own wrong choices. God is still doing a remodel for us and in us too. Remodels are hard work and so is the remodel of our flesh and of our sin nature. Finish to completion the remodel that God has started. And if you are struggling, join together with a peer group, coaching group, or a set of mentors that can help you in this endeavor. You Are Not Alone!
